The major raw materials of our products are herbal plants. We in
general use almost 150 medicinal plants for our manufacture. These
plants include many, very common herbal plants also like Blackpepper,
Long pepper, Ginger, Cinnamon, Myristica fragrance (Jaiphal), Curcuma
longa (Haldi) etc.
We have following system of testing:
- Identification of right, correct, herbal plant.
- To achieve the above target we have own collection of herbal
plants as well as a terrace garden, well authenticated by various
workers in this field. There are number of publications as well
as Ayurvedic Text Books which gives the correct description of
the herbs. These include Arya Bhishak, Bhavprakash, Nighantu Ratnakar,
Bhesaj Samhita (Ayurvedic Pharmacopiea) etc. These books are also
approved by food and drug administration, Maharashtra.
After identifying the correct raw material we have
again our own specifications of testing the raw material. The following
tests are carried on in our laboratory.
- Outer morphology of the plant material i.e. Macroscopic
analysis.
This includes the name, shape, size, colour, weight,
Extraneous matter like soil, sand etc. of the plant and its components
like roots, stem, leaf, fruit, flowers etc.
I. Microscopic Analysis:
Each plant material has its own microscopic structure.
We cut the section of the part of plant and examine in microscope.
This microscope is attached to image analyzer & computer. This
instrument gives the total information like size, length of the
microscopic structure of plant material. It gives the information
whether the sample matches with the standard sample already stored
in computer.
- Micro analysis:
After passing through above two tests the sample is subjected
to microanalysis. The slide of the section of drug is treated
with number of reagents, which give definite colours with definite
component of plant drug. For example when the slide of section
of plant is treated with Dragendroffs reagent, if it gives orange
colour, Alkaloids are present in the plant drug.
- Chemical analysis:
- There are various methods available in various books and
Pharmacopoeias to test and analyse the contents like saponins,
alkaloids, tannins, bitter substances present in the plant
drugs. These assays are carried on in our laboratory to estimate
the percentage of various constituents in plant drug.
- We test water-soluble extractives, alcohol soluble extractives
& moisture content of the drug.
Thus after passing through all these standards
the herb is used in the production of formulation. The quality of
raw material is very important as far as our industry is concerned.
The whole structure depends on the quality of the raw drugs and
we cannot survive if we do not keep standard quality of raw drug.
Ayurchem has a will to deliver the best in quality
and strive for continuous improvement. However it is the physicians
who are the final word. We request you to give a fair trial to our
products. If they talk the language of quality and efficacy, please
oblige.
